Earlier on Thursday, the Forest Department issued a red alert for the east zone of the mangrove forest following arrests of poachers with tiger and deer skins, and venison. The Forest Department also instructed all the stations, camps, and outposts to enforce the red alert. In addition, instructions have been given to intensify patrols inside the forest,” Sundarbans East Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Mohammad Belayet Hossain said. Deer and tiger poaching in the Sunderbans has increased recently at an alarming rate as poachers have become desperate.
