Sunanda Pushkar case: Court pulls up police for delaying de-sealing of room

NEW DELHI: A Delhi court on Saturday pulled up the police for delaying the de-sealing of the room where the dead body of Sunanda Pushkar was found and not informing the hotel that the investigation into the case needed more time. The court also asked the police to submit the case report on September 4.During the course of the proceedings, the lawyers of Hotel Leela informed the Delhi's Patiala House Court bench that they were yesterday informed by the cops regarding the de-sealing of the suit where the wife of Congress leader Shashi Thraroor was found dead. "Yesterday (Friday), the police sent a letter to the management that the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) team will visit the premises again on September 1 for collecting evidence and as such room cannot be de-sealed yet," Hotel Leela's lawyer informed bench. The lawyers added that the room has been sealed since 2015 and no evidence has been collected so far. However, the police claimed that the investigation in the case is still under way. "Last week, the investigation team of the case held a meeting and it was decided that the CFSL team will have to visit the crime scene again," police informed court. On August 1, Delhi police had also asserted "investigation still under way" in the high court. "Let the investigation complete and whatever the High Court has asked Delhi Police to show in the status report we will be doing exactly that," he had said.Earlier on July 6, Parliament and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) member Subramanian Swamy had filed a PIL in the Delhi High Court seeking a court-monitored enquiry into the mysterious death of Sunanda.Sunanda Pushkar, wife of Congress leader Shashi Tharoor , was found dead at a suite in a five star hotel in South Delhi on the night of January 17, 2014.
