High temperatures are expected to linger in some eastern parts of the country throughout the week thanks to warm, moist air sweeping over the Tasman Sea. Some heavy rain is forecast for the city and gale northwesterlies are predicted for the evening, with gusts up to 110kmh in exposed places. A heavy rain warning is in place for the area until Tuesday morning, while a strong wind watch is in place until midnight on Monday. A heavy rain warning is in place for the Tararua Ranges until Tuesday morning, with between 180-250mm expected. A heavy rain watch is also in place for Mount Taranaki until 8pm on Monday.
