Summer unofficially starts in two weeks, but cold and snow are visiting New England (Photos)

High-altitude weather pattern shows big dip in the stream over the Northeast with a pool of cold air lodged over the region. Some of the higher elevations of New York, New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine, were blanketed by snow Monday night and Tuesday morning while it’s been damp and abnormally chilly elsewhere. This wintry pattern was set up by an unusually cold pool of air at high altitudes tucked into a dip in the jet stream over eastern North America. For cold-weather-weary New Englanders, the good news is that this cold pool will disperse and highs are forecast to soar into the 70s by the weekend. A friend of mine sent me this picture from West Dover, VT. 4.5" of snow this morning.
