Mumbai’s biggest bash last week was Vandana and Cyril Shroff’s midweek celebration of 100 years of the Amarchand franchise at a SoBo hotel. Even Ratan Tata made a rare appearance, as did his new successor N Chandrasekaran . Mumbai’s business royalty—from the Ambanis to Goenkas and Bajajs—were all present, hobnobbing with top politicos, while fellow pharma billionaires, Cadila’s Pankaj Patel and Torrent’s Sudhir Mehta, flew down from Gujarat for the event. It was a full house, with portfolio companies mingling freely with Mumbai’s corporate elite.Fresh from his boardroom victory, Ratan Tata looks visibly relieved and is seen far more frequently in public. But on the day N Chandrasekaran was appointed as the new chairman, Ratan Tata asked the chairman designate to quickly take over and relieve him.
