Sudan, Somalia-Ethiopia Conflicts: Museveni to Host Regional Leaders’ Summit


President Museveni has agreed to host a meeting to resolve the conflict between Ethiopia and Somalia over access to the Red Sea and the destructive civil war in Sudan. ChimpReports now understands that the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), a regional body comprising 8 member states, will hold a mediation meeting in Kampala on January 18, 2024. Sudan crisisIn Sudan, the war is raging between Rapid Support Forces led by warlord, General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, better known as Hemedti and government forces. Dagalo has not explained why he chose to avoid the meeting which the regional and international community have been rooting for as the first step to ending the civil war in Sudan. Dagalo has since met other African leaders including Uganda’s Yoweri Museveni, Kenya’s William Ruto, Paul Kagame of Rwanda, South Africa’s Cyril Ramaphosa and Djibouti’s Ismaïl Omar Guelleh.
