Subsidy for 'N-nothings' not enough for rents, union saysMore than 60 percent of the households in subdivided units believe that the HK$1.1 billion one-off living subsidy for “N-nothings” is not enough to support rents, a union said. "N-nothings" refer to low-income earners and grassroots households who do not get any government welfare and live in private housing. The subsidy, for which applications started in July, ranges from HK$4,500 for single households to HK$15,500 for five-people households. Meanwhile, more than 90 percent of the households said that a rent subsidy should be rolled out. "Of course I hope the susbsidy can be 'normalized'...It has helped households living in subdivided units to an extent."
