AYER HITAM: FIFA Puskas best goal 2016 award winner Mohd Faiz Subri (pic) had almost given up football in his younger days. He won for his wildly bending free-kick goal during the Panthers’ 4-1 victory over Pahang in a Super League match on Feb 16 last year. According to his father Subri Kadir, Faiz almost quit football at the age of 22 after failing to secure a team in 2009. He fired 10 goals to help the islanders to a runner-up finish in the Premier League and earn promotion to the Super League. “I am glad now that he took my advice all those years ago, and decided to carry on in football,” said Subri.
