In one of those weird yet inevitable coincidences that crops up due to the fact that automotive journalists show up at dealerships just like everyone else, I happened to purchase a Subaru Crosstrek the very same day this Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid showed up in my driveway to test. But back to the Crosstrek Hybrid. So on the roads and on the trails, the Crosstrek Hybrid is fun and effective—though it's not particularly fast when darting off the line at stoplights. After it's depleted, the MPG drop down to only about 6 higher than the non-hybrid version. Such as, say, when quietly heading up those trails, disturbing nary a creature in the natural environment that Subaru's are famous for helping you explore.
