The government announced last August that it would phase out single-use plastic shopping bags over the next 12 months to better look after the environment. While there are so many great New Zealand designer handbags I could talk about, for me, the most exciting development in bags this year is the banning of single use plastic shopping ones, officially in force from the first of next month. Another stylish option is the Frances Hodgkins tote, which is one of the less-expensive items of merchandise that accompanies the exhibition of her work currently running at Auckland Art Gallery. The mostly local bags and purses I've included in my list of favourites could easily have been inspired by Hodgkins and her skilful way with colour.
