OTTAWA—For students, it seems a bleak summer job market just got bleaker. Ottawa’s promise of an enhanced summer jobs program — with enriched subsidies of up to 100 per cent to encourage private and public employers to hire students — is welcome. YOU MIGHT BE INTERESTED IN...Ferreira, 21, is part of the “Don’t Forget Students” coalition which joined with the Canadian Federation of Students last week to press Ottawa to open up the emergency benefit to students and recent graduates. He called the enhanced jobs program a “welcome first step,” saying that students would much rather be working and getting experience. She noted the government action so far that includes a six-month moratorium on payments for Canada Student Loans and the changes to the summer jobs program.
