Started around 8am on Wednesday, the blockade triggered a long tailback on the highway. The demand for a footbridge came during protesting the death of the institution’s student by a road accident that took place on Sunday evening. The pupils on Monday adopted such move two times on the same ground and the situation improved as police promised to meet their demands. Confirming the incident, Tongi police station Inspector (investigation) Aminul Islam said: “The students have put the barricade since 8am and they noticed me that not police, only promise of the city corporation mayor and local roads and highways officials for setting up a footover bridge in front of their institution will convince them to lift the barrier.”However, the students moved away from the spot around 12:30pm following the promise of Gazipur Superintendent of Police Harun-or Rashid to meet their demands, the inspector also said. On Sunday evening, the institution’s class-VII student named Tasnim Akter was killed by a road accident while she was passing the highway and since then the students took to the streets on the demands.
