KOTA KINABALU: When Jasri Mangi stepped up on stage to receive an envelope containing financial aid this afternoon, it was as if a weight had been lifted off his shoulders. The 20-year-old from remote Pensiangan district was among 178 Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) students from low-income families to receive welfare assistance from the varsity. So receiving financial aid like this is something I am grateful for,” said the humble student. Like his peers, Jasri was moved to tears when UMS representatives visited his home in July to inform he was selected as a recipient of the varsity’s welfare assistance. Sabah Yang di-Pertua Tun Juhar Mahiruddin’s wife Toh Puan Norlidah RM Jasni presented the financial aid to the students.
