Aras Amiri is a Kingston University student who also works for the British CouncilA British-Iranian academic and an Iranian student with British residence rights have been arrested while on visits home, adding to the strain between the two countries. Mahan Abedin, who runs the research firm Dysart Consulting and has appeared as an analyst on Iranian television, is accused of being a “collaborator” with “infiltration”, according to the Iran Newswire website. The Foreign Office said it was seeking information from the Iranian authorities, while the British Council said it was investigating reports that a member of its staff had been detained. That was believed to be Aras Amiri, a 32-year-old student at Kingston University who also works for the council arranging cultural exchanges with Iran. She was arrested while visiting her sick grandmother.
