Student Assembly Leaders Introduce Controversial Resolution to Limit Independence of Office of Ethics

Student Assembly President Zora deRham ’27 and seven other high-ranking Assembly leaders announced a resolution at Thursday’s Assembly meeting that, if passed, would limit the independence of the Office of Ethics. These positions would replace the current vice president of internal operations role, which is currently filled by a student body election. “The membership of the Office of Ethics is not selected by the student body,” deRham pointed out in defense of the proposal at the meeting. “We’ve reverted the section about the Office of Ethics to what it was prior, aside from the fact that it is permanently an independent office. The goal was in no way to blindside them.”Resolution 2 established the Office of Ethics as an independent body.
