Strong winds to blow in haze

Strong winds to blow in hazeThe Pollution Control Department (PCD) yesterday warned of severe haze in the North as strong southwesterly winds are expected to blow in pollution from neighbouring Myanmar. Pralong Damrongthai, director-general of the PCD, said the haze will worsen and he has contacted the Asean Secretariat to help tackle the problem of transboundary air pollution. "The lack of rain and stagnant air will trap the haze and make the pollution worse. Fire has claimed 10% or 3,000 rai of the famous Phu Kradueng National Park in Loei this year, while other national parks, such as Khao Yai National Park in Nakhon Ratchasima province and Doi Inthanon National Park in Chiang Mai, have also fallen victim to blazes. However, Mr Varawut said, though fires have destroyed large swathes of forested land, the ministry has also reclaimed forest land from encroachers.
