Share:Given the spike in Covid-19 cases across the country and the resulting strain on the healthcare system, the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) on Sunday decided to expand the scope of SOPs. Earlier on August 2, the NCOC had revised SOP guidelines for 13 cities, but considering how positivity rates are in double digits in several cities, the decision to extend stricter regulations to 14 more cities is the right one. The situation needs to be taken seriously by all stakeholders as during the last 24 hours, 120 people lost their lives and 4,191 people tested positive around the country. It is imperative to drive home the realization that some base level of SOPs will now have to be a permanent fixture in our lives for the foreseeable future. Authorities should consider imposing penalties or pursuing disciplinary action to deter the public from neglecting SOPs.
