Stress of exams takes heavy toll on teenage girls


The number of teenage girls who say they feel under pressure to perform well at school has almost doubled in the past decade, according to a survey. It records a ten-year deterioration in the emotional wellbeing of 15-year-olds, with experts saying that the strain of having to get top marks is taking a toll. The annual Scottish schools adolescent lifestyle and substance use survey shows the number of girls aged 15 who report feeling under pressure “a lot of the time” because of school work has soared, from 36 per cent in 2006 to 62 per cent in 2015.
