The African Commission on Nuclear Energy (AFCONE) has launched a five-year programme, Uplifting Nuclear Safeguards in Africa at the South African Nuclear Energy Corporation (Necsa) in Pretoria. Enobot Agboraw, Executive Secretary of the AFCONE explained that the programme is a major opportunity to develop nuclear safeguards in Africa. Loyiso Tyabashe, Necsa Group CEO said they would contribute extensive knowledge and expertise on nuclear safeguards to the programme. Nuclear safeguards are the key prerequisite for the peaceful uses of nuclear energy.
