Police have closed off a street in Christchurch after a serious assault overnight. A 41-year-old man was assaulted on Shands Rd, beside Hornby Mall, just after midnight. He is in a serious but stable condition in hospital. The attacker has not yet been found. Police have closed off the area for a scene examination, and said it was expected to be cordoned off until about midday.
