Stratford Guide unit desperate to find new leaders

Guide leader Leonie Spalding and, from left, Georgia Kilmister, 8, Charlotte North, 12, and Madison Hughes-Wineera, 10, are hoping to find some more leaders to keep the unit open. A lack of leaders means a Girl Guide unit that has run for 96 years may have to close. The Stratford Brownies pack went into recess at the end of 2019 because it had no leader, and the Guides unit is facing the same fate unless current leader Leonie Spalding can recruit an offsider or two. Spalding, who has been a guide leader for 12 years, said she enjoyed watching the girls develop new skills. A Guide leader needed to have compassion, be kind and creative, a little bit adventurous and be happy to listen to the girls' ideas, they said.
