However, we are not necessarily food insecure because we can access our food requirements through imports. Singapore can easily secure its food requirements because of its high-income country status and its efficient and modern logistics facilities. But it can still pursue strategic importation by examining the seasonal fluctuations in the supply of key agricultural and food commodities, decide the volume, and calibrate the entry of imports during the lean months of a particular product. However, adopting the strategic importation approach in the country is easier said than done because of our unique political economy. What they conveniently fail to mention, however, is that they will make a killing from high prices if imports are curtailed.
