PRANAB KUMAR DASTezpur: An adult female rhino that was stranded in a beel inside Kaziranga National Park near Buloni forest camp under Kohora range died on Friday. Forest officials were trying rescue operations to free the rhino and a team of veterinary doctors were also present to treat it. Rohini Ballav Saikia, divisional forest officer of the national park, said the rhino was finally freed but she died after a few minutes of the rescue, even as doctors began preliminary treatment. The carcass of a male elephant was found at Bijulee tea estate near Numaligarh under Murphuloni beat office in Golaghat district on Friday. The elephant died a couple of days ago but the carcass was found after local people detected a foul smell in the area and informed forest officials.
