The settled weather is expected to last until Monday, but then there’s a chance of heavy rain for northern and central areas. The rest of winter and early spring were likely to be warmer than average, but plumes of tropical moisture could cause heavy rainfall that could increase the flooding risk. Niwa says plumes of tropical moisture may increase the risk of flooding in many parts of the country during the next few months. Rainfall was likely to be near normal or above normal in the north and west of the North Island and north of the South Island. It would most likely to be near normal in all other regions.
