Storm victims take shelter at Houston’s convention center — arriving by foot, bus and dump truck

Brown Convention Center in downtown Houston by the hundreds Sunday evening, with more expected to arrive as emergency teams rescued storm victims from flooded homes throughout the area. They planned to sleep in cots in the convention center for one or more nights. (Reuters/Nick Oxford)Despite the rush of evacuees, the scene at the convention center was well organized Sunday night. The convention center itself had not flooded or sustained any serious damage. The city’s homeless also flocked to the convention center.
