This is not a gruesome movie scene; it’s part of the ongoing, silent genocide against Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar. More than 270,000 Rohingya have already fled and more than 1,000 have been murdered by the Myanmar government since violence erupted. Despite living in Myanmar for generations, they have been denied citizenship and basic human rights. All restrictions on humanitarian aid to the Rohingya should be lifted and access for journalists and human rights monitors should be permitted. The Rohingya should be recognised as a protected ethnic minority group, with guarantees of their basic human rights, including citizenship and voting rights.
