U.S. stocks were higher in mid-session trading Monday as the market shook off an early stumble. Traders were favoring safety-play investments such as high-dividend phone companies and household goods makers. The Dow Jones industrial average advanced 68 points, or 0.4%, to 18,154. The Standard & Poor's 500 index rose 12 points, or 0.6%, to 2,139. The yield on the 10-year Treasury note rose to 1.69%.
