U.S. stocks closed higher Thursday, overcoming pressure from declines among shares of airlines and consumer companies whose profits are vulnerable to fallout from an intensifying coronavirus outbreak. As of 4 p.m. ET, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 124 points, or 0.4%, to 28859, erasing declines after the World Health Organization said it wasn’t recommending restrictions on international trade and travel. The S&P 500 rose 0.3%, and the Nasdaq Composite also rose 0.3%.
