Stock Markets Firm While Bitcoin Futures Make Debut

Stocks mostly inched higher Monday in the run-up to three major central bank meetings this week, while bitcoin futures jumped when they began trading on a major U.S. exchange. The bitcoin contract expiring in January opened at $15,000 and spiked to $16,660 within the first six minutes of trading. The European Central Bank and Bank of England also hold policy meetings on Thursday. The Chinese central bank injected a net 20 billion yuan ($3.02 billion) into money markets Monday after draining liquidity for two weeks, providing a lift to equities traders’ moods in China. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index rose 1.1%, helped by gains in HSBC and Tencent.
