Subhankar ChowdhurySalt Lake: The higher education department has asked all colleges to take steps against the spread of mosquito-borne diseases and make students aware on how to prevent dengue and chikungunya. The notice issued by the higher education department on March 22 stresses the need for maintaining the "cleanliness of the premises of educational institutions to prevent vector-borne diseases". The notice lists the steps the colleges are required to take. Director of public instruction Jayashri Ray Chaudhuri, who signed the notice, said: "The earlier we start the battle the better. As part of the preventive steps, another official of the higher education department said, the colleges are required to cover all vats on and near the campuses.
