Since the Charlottesville deadly turmoil and persistent venting of hate and hate speech, I’ve debated returning to a disturbing and sadly illuminating episode I experienced some 15 years ago. In October 2002, a friend who lives in Stonington and runs a print shop in New London called me at the newspaper to relate what had just happened at his business. I wrote a column about the print shop incident, applauding the rejection. In the interest of free speech, then, this is a representative sampling of what I received:“Good day for genocide, Hebe.
