McClaren, 59, spoke to the Scottish Premiership newcomers earlier this week about replacing Robbie Neilson but has now ruled himself out of the race. "I'm very impressed with the club's structure, philosophy and ambition," McClaren told Sky Sports. United sporting director Tony Asghar confirmed talks had taken place but insisted neither McClaren, nor anyone else, has been offered the job. "Steve and I had really good conversations and he would have been a great fit, but other candidates would be too."
