Mamata Banerjee has become the first serving chief minister in the country to argue a petition in the Supreme Court. Ms Banerjee listed some of these alleged infirmities. Bengal’s Opposition, which walks a step behind Ms Banerjee when it comes to harnessing optics, has dismissed the chief minister’s day in court as theatrics. But in an age when politics is usually shaped more by the art of messaging than the message itself, Ms Banerjee, it must be said, has stolen a march on her rivals. With elections on the horizon, the BJP would not like to play catch-up to Ms Banerjee.
