Paritutu’s Stefan McCartain has advanced to his second Taranaki bowls final in the space of two weeks. His opponent in the final is Fitzroy stalwart John Kurta, who trounced Waitara’s Kevin Waters 21-2 in the other semifinal. He is a former New Zealand under 21 singles winner and holds two Bay of Plenty open titles, plus a junior singles there. In the men’s triples, Kewene Ratahi, Levi Davis and Paddy Deegan (Opunake) will play Marty Jordan, Daryl Read and Hamish Kape (Paritutu). – Stefan McCartain was a former New Zealand under 21 singles winner, not an under 26 winner as mentioned in an earlier version of this story.
