Hui (inset) said more stringent measures such as limiting business hours of non-essential stores could be adopted over Christmas Holiday later this week. A stay-home order may be imposed to restrict citizens’ activities as the last resort to combat the ongoing Covid-19 outbreaks if the public do not comply with social distancing, government adviser David Hui Shu-cheong said. He also reminded citizens to refrain from gatherings at private premises during the festive season and warned if the situation does not improve, the government may consider imposing a stay-home order and only allow citizens go out for several hours a day for necessary activities. Hui said he had observed many citizens still going out on weekends, including many heading to “red leaves hotspot” Tai Tong in Yuen Long, where people took off their masks to take photos. He said any maskless activities come with transmission risks, adding law enforcement should be enhanced.
