NNN: The Secretary-General is following with concern the demonstrations that took place in several Libyan cities, including Tripoli, Tobruk and Benghazi, on July 1st. Recognizing the right to demonstrate peacefully, it urges all demonstrators to avoid acts of violence and the security forces to exercise the utmost restraint. The Secretary General calls on all actors to refrain from any action that could undermine stability. The Secretary-General urges Libyan actors to unite to overcome the continuing political deadlock, which is deepening divisions and negatively impacting the country’s economy. The recent meetings in Cairo and Geneva under the auspices of the UN have made considerable progress, which must be built on.
