The Maharashtra government told the Bombay High Court on Friday that it will provide 24x7 police security in 16 hospitals outside Mumbai. The state government had earlier informed the court that it will deploy 28 police personnel for security of resident doctors at six hospitals in Mumbai. MARD had held a strike earlier this year to protest against physical assault on resident doctors by relatives of patients. The police personnel deployed at the hospitals will be armed with weapons. The strike was challenged by petitioner Afaq Mandaviya in the form of a public interest litigation (PIL).
