A workers’ union has urged the government to buy thermal guns for police officers and other public service staff to screen clients. Kenya Independent Commission Workers Union secretary general Njeru Kayamba said he had visited supermarkets, hotels, police stations and other open government offices and found no screening of temperatures or records of visitors despite the Covid-19 threat. Kayamba urged the government and administrators of frequently-visited places to acquire thermal guns to screen the temperatures of every person visiting the premises. Any mall, hotel or supermarket where more than five people gather should buy a thermal gun,” he said. Last week, Kayamba asked Kenyans to desist from stigmatising infected people saying Kenyans may be suffering in silence or dying at their homes.
