State to connect last 233 primary schools to national grid

The government aims to start connecting the remaining 233 public primary schools to the national power grid from August. “Rea only wants reports made on existing public primary schools, not proposed schools or those under construction,” Gicharu said. Rea said 22, 249 out of 23, 375 public primary schools are fully connected, with 18, 074 connected via grid extension while 4, 175 through solar installation. Work had begun for 247 primary schools, but stopped due to a shortage of line construction materials. The Rural Electrification Authority urged head teachers whose schools are not yet on the grid to register for connection by July 20.
