State-run Convergence Energy Services Ltd (CESL) will supply 30,000 electric two-wheelers to Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Goa, in a boost to India’s ambitious plans for green mobility. CESL will also separately sign a pact with the Pune Municipal Corporation on Saturday for leasing out and operating three-wheeled electric vehicles (EVs) for the municipality’s garbage collection fleet. EESL, a joint venture of NTPC Ltd, Rural Electrification Corp. Ltd, Power Finance Corp. Ltd and Power Grid Corp. of India Ltd, is currently running the world’s largest domestic lighting programme. Under the new scheme, CESL aims to have 200,000 two-wheeled EVs and 300,000 three-wheeled EVs across India. While the EV scheme will be open to state government employees in Andhra Pradesh and Kerala; in Goa, it can be availed by anyone.
