State guilty of abusing journalists in Kenya - report


Kenyan authorities have committed abuses against journalists reporting on sensitive issues, threatening freedom of expression ahead of elections, a report has found. The report by Human Rights Watch and Article indicated that journalists and bloggers have faced intimidation, beatings and job loss. HRW interviewed 92 journalists, human rights activists, bloggers and government officials throughout Kenya. The two organisations said timely and thorough investigations and prosecutions are crucial in ensuring journalists and bloggers report freely ahead of the polls set for August 8.
