State contemplating new scheme for fleet taxi operators

Maharashtra government is contemplating a new scheme for fleet taxi operators in the city, the Bombay high court was told. The association of radio taxi operators has contended that operators like Uber and Ola are using tourist vehicles as taxies. “They don’t have permits, they don’t have meters fitted on their vehicles, they don’t have fare regulations,” said the petitioners counsel Aspi Chinoy. “How can they be allowed to ply these tourist vehicles as taxies,” he added. The court has now directed the government to file affidavit an affidavit in a week, stating how tourist vehicles are being allowed to ply as regular taxies.
