Irish stargazers will get the opportunity to witness a mesmerising partial lunar eclipse next Saturday as the lower edge of the Moon clips the Earth's shadow. A lunar eclipse occurs when the Sun, Earth and the Moon are aligned with the Earth in the middle. This results in darkening of the Moon's surface and is called a lunar eclipse. Mr Moore added that Astronomy Ireland is inviting stargazers who see the eclipse to take photographs and to write a short report based on what they witness. This will be included in the publication in the next issue of Astronomy Ireland magazine.
