The Star’s Alyshah Hasham and Wendy Gillis were presented with the Landsberg Award for reporting on violence against women at the Canadian Journalism Foundation’s annual awards ceremony Wednesday evening. The award, which was presented in association with the Canadian Women’s Foundation, came with a $5,000 prize which was shared by the duo. Thank you so much for that trust and for your bravery,” Gillis said while accepting the award in the virtual ceremony. “It’s so fitting that Star journalists Alyshah Hasham and Wendy Gillis would be honoured for their reporting on violence against women with the award named after trail-blazing former Star journalist Michele Landsberg, who paved the way as an advocate for women through journalism,” said Anne Marie Owens, editor of the Star.
