Toronto Starcolumnist Judith Timson has been selected as a finalist for the 2016 CBC Creative Nonfiction Prize. Timson’s entry, Through the Front Page, is the story of her time sharing a newsroom with her late father, a former Star journalist himself. “It’s a short memoir about a complex father and the newspaper business that we both loved — a business that is now struggling,” Timson said. Timson said the story is especially poignant given the news industry’s current woes, adding that it depicts a bygone era for reporters. And Timson said although her father, a classic newsman, might not approve of her writing such a personal story, she’s glad to finally share it.
