The release of the trailer for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker caused such a commotion, but one of the stand-out moments has to be the tease of the returning classic franchise arch-villain Emperor Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid). The actor made an appearance on stage after the trailer was screened for the first time at Star Wars Celebration before saying in the voice of his character to show the footage again. Ian McDiarmid first played the evil Sith lord and Emperor in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, before reprising his role as Palpatine in all of the prequel trilogy instalments. He was also edited into Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back in the digitally remastered DVD release. Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker is released in UK cinemas on December 19, 2019.
