PETALING JAYA: About 1,700 rural pupils in Sarawak will receive food and education aid for a year, thanks to donations from the Star Foundation and various other individuals and organisations amounting to RM1.23mil. "We're touched by the overwhelming support," said Datuk Richard Lee, the organising chairman of the Rural Kids Education Fund, after receiving mock cheques from Star Foundation and five other donors at Menara Star here on Thursday. He initiated a charity golf tournament in February to raise RM1mil for rural pupils in Sarawak affected by the floods. Star Foundation, a charitable arm of Star Media Group, donated RM30,000 to the Rural Kids Education Fund. The funds will be distributed to deserving schools and pupils in Sarawak by the MyKasih Foundation, in cooperation with the Sarawak government.
