The Star even permitted their reporters to call specific attention to the names and backgrounds of Canadians business owners of Italian heritage, while referencing other non-Italian business owners with similar assets only by company name. Investigating an issue of public importance, in this case Highway 413 and the related political and public policy impacts, is within the Star’s purview and fair game. It would not be tolerated if the Star had printed the same stereotypes and age-old unproven assertions about other ethnic groups in Canada. As members of the Italian-Canadian community we are saddened, enraged and disheartened that the Toronto Star owners, publishers and editors have collectively let this slide on their watch.
