Should you be cautious investing in China?, July 5EDITOR’S NOTE: Bill Schiller, now retired, was the Star’s foreign editor (2002-2006) and Asia Bureau Chief, based in Beijing (2007-2011). Congratulations to Torstar chair and co-proprietor Paul Rivett for his gutsy, principled column sharply critical of the Communist Party of China! Torstar still owns half of Chinese-language Sing Tao Daily’s Toronto edition. Sing Tao might be the oldest newspaper in Hong Kong, but it is, today, controlled by owners supportive of Beijing’s repressive regime. Or does he intend, as he encourages others, to dump his Chinese investment, thereby “reducing exposure to Chinese government repression?”
