Singapore-based Stamford Shipping is rounding up a busy year on the acquisitions front with the purchase of two MR2-type product tankers from Ethiopian Shipping and Logistics Services. The widely reported purchase deals of the 42,200-dwt tankers Bahir Dar (built 2012) and Hawassa (built 2013) that are currently being finalised will bring the number of MR2 tankers that low-key Stamford has bought during 2022 to six vessels, according to VesselsValue data. Some brokers suggest that the Jinling-built Bahir Dar and Hawassa are being sold for $40m en bloc.
